Cuyahoga Falls Tiger wrestlers were anxious to get their season started this Saturday when they hosted the Justin Walsh 6- team Dual tournament. When the day was done eight wrestlers remained undefeated and the team walked away with the first place trophy. The wrestlers began the day routing Brush 54- 16. They then crushed Akron Garfield 74-3 and Ellet 61-12. Canfield was their third victim falling 44-22. Only one team, Coventry, came close to giving the Tigers a hard time. At one point Falls trailed the match 27 to 18. The Tigers then won four out of the next five matches to cruise to a 42 to 33 victory. The eight wrestlers who were undefeated for the day were sophomore Nick Johnson (3-0) at 112, senior J.R. Wiezbiski (3- 0) at 119, sophomore Connor McMahon (3-0) at 130, Freshman Adam Lynch (2-0) at 140, senior Dylan King (5-0) at 152, senior Tyler Tesney (5-0) at 160, junior Tyler Eastman (5- 0) at 171, and junior Derek Rhodes (5-0) at 285. The team travels to Garfield Heights this Thursday for the first league match and then to Medina for a 6-team dual this Saturday. 2009/2010 Season It’s time again to start gearing up for the coming wrestling season. By most measures last year was a good one for all the programs; however, for the high school team the opening line from Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities - “it was the best of times, it was the worst of times”, was more than apropos when describing their season. It was the best of times for the high school black tigers team wise. The boys surprised everyone by winning the Northeastern Ohio Conference (NOC) Lake Division team dual title after being picked to finish last in preseason polls. The team went undefeated (5-0) in Lake Division dual matches and ended the season with an 18-2 overall dual match record – the only losses coming at the Wheeling Park.......... Read More |
