2019 NCAA National Champion

Thursday, 4/18 @ 6:30 (Cedar Falls HS)

We have a great opportunity coming to Cedar Falls HS Thursday, 4/18 @ 6:30pm. 2019 National Champion from University of Northern Iowa, Drew Foster, is coming in to work with our guys. This is free to all wrestlers at any age, this is a fantastic opportunity for our program and just a start of many great things to come.

Parents please know this Thursday is a great opportunity to get some great technique, motivation, and just talk to one of the best in the biz but this is a serious opportunity we need to take advantage of. This is not the time to bring a young wrestler in to blow off energy, but to is a time to focus and get better, learning from the best! Please make sure we are bringing athletes in to work and not just to run around on this and other guest clinican dates.

Please let me know if your wrestler will be attending so we can get an idea for numbers and partners needed!

Cedar Falls Wrestling Club 2018/2019 Wrap-UP

CFWC.JPG

I wanted to thank everyone for a great CFWC wrestling 2018/2019 season! We would not have as successful of a season without the hard work, dedication, and support of the CFWC wrestlers and parents. We have seen so much support and growth in the CFWC these last 2 years it has been unbelievable. When we started the CFWC last year we wanted to create another opportunity for youth in the Cedar Falls area to learn about and get exposed to the sport of wrestling, we have definitely done that and much more.

The CFWC has grown in numbers by over 25% from year 1 and 2, to just over 80 PK-8th wrestlers. CFWC coaches and wrestlers traveled to just over 10 competition events this season.  We had around 50 wrestlers compete in at least one competition this year, of those 50 we had 30 plus wrestlers compete in at least 3 competitions with several wrestlers participating at 3/4 of those 11 competitions. By the numbers the CFWC wrestlers chalked up over 500 matches in the 18/19 season. That 500 plus matches toward the future of the Cedar Falls Wrestling Program. This is where it begins, the future is bright for the Tiger Nation!

Thanks again to all of the wrestlers, coaches, and parents for making the 18/19 CFWC season so successful and we are looking forward to many more.

Look forward to offseason strength training and wrestling opportunities to come.

Cedar Falls Wrestling Club Banquet, Tuesday, March 12th @ 7PM HS Cafe

Good afternoon CFWC Parents,

First things first, I wanted to say congratulations to the Cedar Falls HS Basketball team and any family members you may have involved with the Cedar Falls HS basketball program on their fantastic season , capped off with a State Title last night in Des Moines!! All of the work we put in now translates to the success of the Cedar Falls athletic programs in the future. I am excited for the future of Cedar Falls athletics especially this group and the wrestling program.

I apologize for the late communication but with the state basketball tournament this week, conferences next week, and spring break the following, we have been kind of scrambling with a date, time, and location to have the CFWC banquet. We have decided to have a quick get together this upcoming Tuesday night, 3/12 @ 7pm in the HS cafeteria. I know some students have conferences on Tuesday night but hope the 7pm time will be after those.

The banquet should only last about 30-40 minutes. The program will provide some snacks and waters/ pops but if you would like to bring some additional treats to share it would be much appreciated. I will try and keep it short I just wanted to get through a short re-cap of the season, outlook for years to follow. We will also be talking about offseason wrestling opportunities and lifting opportunities for the older group. We also still have select sized CFWC t-shirts, singlets, and bags available for purchase at the banquet.

We are looking at a mid-summer get together possibly the weekend of June 14th and 15th. There is a takedown tournament in LaPorte City Union I think would be great to get into as a club. We could possibly do a BBQ in the CF area on Friday night and get everyone wrestling in the tournament the following day in LPC. We will keep in communication with this and have a few extra practices in the week before the tourney.

Please let me know if you are going to make it with how many will be attending. For those who are not going to make it I will send a brief recap with all of the information next week.

Thanks and hope to see you Tuesday,

Coach Curran

Regular scheduled CFWC practice Thursday, 2/21/2019

We will be having our regular scheduled CFWC practices for both groups PK-4th (6-7 PM) and 5-8th (7:15-8:30 PM). We only have a few more practices left for the regular CFWC wrestling season so get in and make them count. Our last scheduled practice will be next Thursday, 2/28/2019.

The CFWC staff will be sending out information in the next week about our annual CFWC banquet. The banquet will be a short get together of parents and wrestlers where we will talk about successes of the year and plans for the future of Cedar Falls Wrestling. We will discuss offseason strength training for 6-8th graders and offseason wrestling opportunities for all ages.

The Cedar Falls Wrestling Program is offering a offseason gear package for all Cedar Falls area wrestlers. You will need to act fast as the order forms are due by next Thursday, 2/28/2019. We also have select sized CFWC Shirts, Singlets, and Gear Bags available at a year end price. Please let me know if you have any questions about gear orders or if you have not received your wrestler’s CFWC gear.

CFWC Weekly Update 2/18/2019

Good Evening CFWC Parents,

I just wanted to send out a quick update for the final 2 weeks of the CFWC practice schedule. We are scheduled to wrap up our CFWC practice season next Thursday, 2/28/2019. We do have some adjustments to the schedule for tomorrow and possibly next Tuesday due to the regional basketball games hosted by Cedar Falls HS Boys and Girls teams.

There will be NO CFWC Practice tomorrow Tuesday 2/19/2019, due to Cedar Falls HS Girls basketball hosting their state regional basketball game against Dowling Catholic. We have decided not to hold practice as this is a very important game for the CF Girls Basketball team and don't want to have any distractions with members in and out of the room. We will have regular scheduled PK-4th (6-7 pm) and 5th-8th (7:15-8:30 pm) this Thursday 2/21.

We will have the weekend off, without competition, because of Iowa AAU Kids State Championships, though we did not have any full CFWC qualifiers this year the future is bright and hope to be down there next season with a few of CFWC's own.

Next Week:

We will have to see about next Tuesday, 2/26 because the CF HS Boys team may be hosting another regional game. Our final CFWC practice will be next Thursday 2/28/2019. We will have banquet information out by then and will be talking about offseason lifting opportunities for the 6th-8th grade CFWC wrestlers and offseason wrestling opportunities for all CFWC members.

See you Thursday,

Coach Curran

CFWC Weekly Update 2/13/2019

We had 6 wrestlers compete in the West Delaware Little Hawk tourney this past weekend. We have done a great job hitting as many tournament we can this season but they are slowing coming to an end in these next few weeks.

This weekend's participants, take minute next time you see them to congratulate them for their hard work!

Liam Wiechmann PK-K (Runner-Up)

Owen Iverson PK-K (Champion)

Gunner Emery 1-2 (Runner-Up)

Landon Wiechman 1-2

DaShadd Wright 3-4

Aiden Williams 3-4 (Runner-Up)

We were scheduled to take tomorrow off due to Coach Peter and myself being at the IHSAA State Wrestling Championships starting this afternoon. Due to the CFWC missing so many practices because of winter weather we are going to take advantage of the opportunity. Coach Wiechmann will be holding a combined PK-8th CFWC practice tomorrow Thursday 2/14 from 6:15-7:15pm @ the HS. Parents helpers and other coaches, since we will have HS coaches at state, we as a staff ask if you can be there to help Coach Wiechmann out that would be great!

Sunday 2/17/2019- TWE Wrestling Tourney, South Tama HS.

There is a PK-8th tourney this Sunday, 2/17 that you are all welcome to attend. We will not be sending coaches at this point but you can still wrestle to get one more in before the regular season ends! It is at South Tama HS, it is a USA Wrestling sanctioned event. You will need a USA card to wrestle in this tourney, here is how you get a USA card. You may want to purchase a multi year card because I foresee a lot of the CFWC team competing in the USA Iowa State Championships next January.

We have a few more practices after this week and we will be getting off season opportunities and CFWC banquet stuff out after next week. We have had a great season so far lets finish strong as we continue to make the CFWC and Cedar Falls Wrestling the best in the state!

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns,
