CFWC Weekly Update, Wednesday 2/6/2019

Good evening CFWC parents,

We have had a busy week in Cedar Falls Wrestling. This past Sunday we had 7 members of the CFWC battle to see if they could punch their ticket to this year's Iowa AAU Kids State Championships in Des Moines. Our district qualifier was held at Waverly Shell-Rock and consisted of some of the toughest 3rd-8th grade wrestlers in the state. Most of the guys who placed top 4 at this district will be on the podium in a few weeks down at the Wells in Des Moines. Please pat these guys on the back next time you see them for getting out there, wrestling hard, and trying to get to Des Moines!

Chase Miller 3/4th (DNP)

Maddox Curran 3/4th (DNP)

Evan Simpson 5/6th (4TH)

Caysen Curran 5/6th (5TH)

Caiden Rentz 7/8th (DNP)

Drew Campbell 7/8th (6th)

Ty Kolthoff 7/8th (5th)

Evan Simpson, who attends the CFWC as well as some other clubs in the area, was the only wrestler from the CFWC to get out of the district qualifier this year . He’ll get the chance to wrestle at the State Championships here in a few weeks at the Wells Fargo Arena. We had three more wrestlers Caysen Curran, Drew Campbell, and Ty Kolthoff who were 1 match away from taking the trip. Evan, as well as all of the other wrestlers, had several competitive and tough matches this weekend and even though the rest were unable to place top 4 they were able to go out and battle to see what they need to do to take the trip to the Wells next season. We return all but 1 to the CFWC next year and I promise, if we can continue to get better like we have this season, a few of them and others in the CFWC will be taking a trip to Des Moines!

This Week:

Regular practice tomorrow, Thursday 2/7, with the 2 separate groups PK-4th (6-7) and 5-8th (7:15-8:30). Please stay with the same groups you have been going to this season. If the weather keeps up please check your emails, twitter, or our Facebook page for any CFWC cancellations. Remember we will have practice whenever we can, please know if there are ever any school cancellations and we do open the room it is an optional practice for those who feel they can get their wrestlers to the practice safely. We are always watching and tracking possible weather and wrestler and parent safety is our number one concern in the CFWC.

Sunday, 2/10- Manchester / West Delaware Little Hawk Tourney

We already have several CFWC wrestlers signed up for this tourney. Please let me know if you plan to attend so we can plan for coaches. Sign up under Cedar Falls Wrestling Club, the full name, if you have not already . If you have already signed up under CFWC, you can change during weigh -ins. Let me know if you have any questions.

This Week at the CFWC....

There will be No CFWC Practice tomorrow, Tuesday 1/29, due to the extreme cold and inclement weather. The Cedar Falls HS Wrestling team has their final conference dual of the season this Thursday if the weather cooperates. If there is a dual there will be NO CFWC practice on Thursday 1/30 either, come out to support the CFWC's big brothers for Senior night. If the dual is cancelled due to Cedar Rapids schools not having school but Cedar Falls does we will have regular scheduled practice for both CFWC groups. I will send out an update Wednesday night with confirmation.

Possible make up practices for AAU district qualifier participants- We are looking at either Friday 1/31 @ 6pm and/ or Saturday @ 4pm as we prepare for the tournament on Sunday.

Sunday, 2/3/19 Iowa AAU District Qualifier @ Waverly-

We'd like to see all wrestlers with 3-8th grade wrestlers with a couple years experience compete in the AAU District Qualifier this weekend. This is the tournament you practice all season for. Although this is just the 2nd year of the CFWC I see more and more members that are beginning to compete at this level. We may not run the table but we will be able to compete and see what we need to do to get better year by year to take that trip down to Des Moines in the next few years. Top 4 placers at AAU Districts qualify for the State Tourney.

Cedar Falls Wrestling Club Update 1/21/2019

Several CFWC members were able to brave the winter weather and get on the mat to compete. We had 10 wrestlers at the Iowa City, MatPac, tournament on Sunday. We had wrestlers all the way from K-8th participating with a lot of competitive and quality matches. The boys had a great time at the club overnight with lots of swimming, pizza, and fun at the hotel with their teammates. As the club grows and parents / wrestlers become more familiar with each other, we plan to have more of these and other get togethers like this in the future.

If you see these wrestlers please give them a pat on the back for a job well done down in IC.

This Week:

We will have regular scheduled CFWC practice for both groups on both Tuesday and Thursday this week with plans to head to the Redhawk Wrestling Club Tourney in Traer, Iowa this Sunday, 1/27/2019. The tourney is fairly close and should be a good tourney for the majority of our wrestlers and a good opportunity to get some mat time before heading into the Iowa AAU District qualifier, Feb 3rd @ Waverly HS

This qualifier is for 3-8th grade wrestlers and top 4 qualify for Iowa AAU Kids State Wrestling Tournament @ Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on February 23 / 24th. We encourage all wrestlers that have been participating for more than 2 years and or are in 7/8th grade to participate. This is a great opportunity to compete against some of the best competition in the area to see where we are as a club and what we need to work on to compete and surpass those wrestlers. Last year we had 4 wrestlers participate and 3 of those wrestlers qualified and represented the CFWC in Des Moines. I will send out more information on both the district qualifier and state wrestling tourney later this week.

Please remember if you have pictures of your athletes or the team to send them to coach@cfwrestlingclub.org so we can get them posted to the website and Facebook page.

For any weather updates or cancellations I will try and get something our via email but you can also follow is at @cfallswrestling on twitter and check our Facebook or website pages for  updates.

We will only be having 12 club matches so not all CFWC wrestlers will be wrestling but all CFWC members are encouraged to attend and cheer on their CFWC teammates. The program also hopes you will stay to support the HS team immediately following. All CFWC, Future Trojan and Evansdale Wolves club wrestlers will get into the dual free of charge if they wear their club shirt, parents will have to pay regular admission.

Participating wrestlers will need to bring wrestling shoes, CFWC singlets, warm up clothes. Water bottles and head gear, if you choose to wear one, it is not required. We ask all wrestlers that have a match to be there at 5:20 so we can get warmed up and ready to go.
